Michael John Danforth, Galesburg Chapel
49, 170 S. West St., Galesburg, died at 12:38 PM Monday, March 28, 2005 in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
He was born April 22, 1955 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Robert William Sr. and Anna B. Harris Danforth. He married Kathy Engstrom in 1982 in Galesburg. He later married Dona Beavers in Galesburg.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather who raised him, Anna and Jack Soper of Galesburg, a brother, Bob Danforth, Jr., Galesburg, 2 sisters, Susan K. Anderson, Galesburg and Jackie (and Dan) Watson, Canton, IL, a step brother, Peter (and Uli) Leiner, Zweibruecken, Germany, 1 niece, 2 nephews, 1 great niece, and 2 great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
He worked for the Galesburg Park District as a softball scorekeeper and for the Knox County YMCA as a basketball scorekeeper for many years. He was a member of the Salvation Army, where he was a bell ringer for many years. He was a 1974 graduate of Galesburg High School and attended Carl Sandburg College. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Funeral will be 10 AM Saturday in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Captain Rick Ray will officiate. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8:30 PM Friday at the chapel. Burial will be in Silent Home Cemetery, Cameron, IL. Memorials can be made to the City of Galesburg Adult/Youth Softball Programs.
