Linda Joy Vollmer (Dugan)

ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands - Family members announce the death of former Galesburg resident, Linda Joy Vollmer Dugan, 53, on Dec. 21, 2009, in St. Thomas, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 10, 1956, in Galesburg, the daughter of Barbara and Donald Vollmer.
Linda was a devoted member of the Baha'i Faith and had been serving as caretaker, with husband Rex, for the Baha'i National Center on St. Thomas since March 2007. She grew up at Lake Bracken, attended Galesburg High School and graduated from Western Illinois University. Linda married Rex Dugan (GHS '69), a high school sweetheart, near Mount Rainier, Wash., on April 8, 2006. She fulfilled her dream of returning to the Virgin Islands with Rex in order to provide service for the Baha'i Faith. Despite enduring many hardships, she is remembered for her joy of life, her selfless service to all she met, her laughter and her love of her family and her faith.
Linda is survived by husband, Rex Dugan of St. Thomas; daughter, Amanda Pomeroy Brock of Red Oak, Texas; brother, Dennis Vollmer, and wife, Susan of St. Thomas; and sister, Dawn Hamman, and husband, Mark of Puyallup, Wash. Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Clark Vollmer.
