Steven Lee Mahnesmith, 48, of Hot Springs, S.D., formerly of Galesburg, died at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday (April 28, 2004) in Chesterfield, Mo.

He was born Dec. 19, 1955, in Galesburg, the son of Forrest E. Mahnesmith and Mary (Varnold) Mahnesmith.

Surviving are a daughter, Tara, New York, N.Y.; a son, Shawn, Chicago; a sister, Diane L. Walker, Lake St. Louis, Mo.; a brother Timothy E. Mahnesmith, Prattville, Ala.; two nephews; and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He worked as an environmental management specialist in Hot Springs, S.D., and was an active volunteer at the Veterans Administration medical center there. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended Galesburg schools.

Visitation and memorial service will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2004 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West in Galesburg. Burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal at a later time.
